Synopsis for "Kal-El Returns, Chapter Five: The Fight Ahead"
At Stryker's Island, Metallo sees a hologram of Lex Luthor in his cell. Luthor tells Metallo that there is communication technology built into his new body and once again demands that Corben join him. Metallo cracks open his skull casing and is about to destroy his brain, choosing to die rather than work for Luthor, but stops when Luthor tells him that his sister has been arrested for murder and is being held in a LexCorp private prison. Corben is furious at Luthor for framing his sister, but has no choice except to go along with his plan.
Meanwhile at the Zoo, Superman battles Orion and Kalibak, his increased strength from Warworld's Genesis-powered white sun making him an even match for the New Gods. Osul-Ra and Otho-Ra want to help in the fight but Bibbo tells them to help rescue civilians trapped under rubble; which the Phaelosian children are easily able to do with their new super-strength and, in Osul-Ra's case, flight.
Desaad sneaks up on them and traps Osul-Ra in energy chains, but the Fire of Olgrun inside him manifests as a construct of Olgrun who easily overpowers and almost kills Desaad. Osul-Ra is terrified but Superman is able to calm him down and the Fire dissipates. Orion says that this proves Osul-Ra cannot control the Fire but Superman refuses to let them take the boy and points out that they can't take him by force. The New Gods withdraw but Orion warns that they will find a way to remove the Fire from Osul-Ra, and when they do they will come back and take it from him, even if it kills him.
Two days later, Superman returns to Warworld and tells the people that the United Planets have located their homeworlds and plotted a course for Warworld to take them home safely. He tells them that they and the House of El have an unbreakable bond, and he will always be ready to aid them when they need him. Orphan pilots Warworld out of the solar system.
At Strykers, the power goes down, allowing Metallo to escape. Meanwhile, Luthor's mole in the Authority is revealed to be Manchester Black, who, after fighting alongside Superman, is no longer interested in working for his enemy. However, Luthor knocks him unconscious with a button on his control panel.

Synopsis for "Red Moon, Part Three"
Thao-La and Supergirl fight Chaytil's monster underground, but their battle causes earthquakes and destruction on the surface. Thao-La tells Supergirl to save the people on the surface while she fights Chaytil. The monster knocks Thao-La out of the air and Chaytil mocks the idea of a "grub" beating him, but Thao-La blasts him with energy and overpowers the beast, fuelled with a desire for justice for her lost loved ones. She rips the Orphan box that Chaytil used to control the monster out of its chest and tells him that she is not afraid of him.
Chaytil is imprisoned on Warworld as it makes it journey through the universe. Weeks later when it reaches New Phaelosia, Thao-La goes to see Chaytil in prison for a final time and then departs. After she leaves, Kryl-Ux teleports in and tells Chaytil that he is the new Mongul and asks Chaytil to serve him.
Notes
- John Kent's football jersey number on the Mario Foccillo and Prasad Rao variant cover is 38 which references Superman's debut year 1938.
