History
The individual known only as Action Man (who may or may not be the original Action Man) is an operative of the World Amalgamated Military Strike Squad serving under Colonel Jonas Carson. He is apparently the squad's top operative, an expert in all forms of combat, air and sea rescue, intelligence gathering and a noted adventurer in his own right, and is the world's first and best line of defence against the machinations of the evil Dr. X and his cohorts in the Council of Doom.

- Action Man's true identity and origins have never been definitively clarified (although we are told at one point that he studied martial arts in Tibet, earning the enmity of a fellow pupil who became the Steel Dove), and there may well have been more than one Action Man anyway. In one account, he is an extreme sports athlete named Alex Mann, while in another he is Matthew Exler, the amnesiac brother of Dr. X. Neither of these guys seems to be the original Action Man.
- Action Man's comics adventures (and, indeed, his animated adventures) are, of course, based on the revived Action Man toy line produced by Hasbro.
Trivia
In at least one account, Action Man is a member of what seems to be an updated version of Action Force.
