History
A group of superhumans are assembled by Nick Fury under presidential order to undertake missions too dangerous for ordinary operatives. Nick and Dum-Dum Dugan go looking for the people required to compose their Avengers; Sabretooth, Dominic Fortune, Namora, Kraven, Ulysses Bloodstone and Silver Sable. In their first mission they stopped a Red Skull impersonator from finishing a chemical compound which was a mixture of the Nazi version of the Super-Soldier Serum and the Infinity Formula.[1]
Nick Fury's Avengers make a stealthy infiltration of the new Red Skull's castle by hijacking a truck. Unfortunately, the Skull takes the opportunity to escape. Investigating his lab, which is now in flames, they spot what appears to be Captain America.[2]
Nick Fury's Avengers are staring at a Captain America look-a-like. Fury orders his team to spread and stop the Red Skull from escaping while he and Sabretooth deals with the impostor. Meanwhile, the Skull attempts to get away with a suitcase, which he claims is crucial to his work. Sabretooth comes charging at him, accidentally getting shot in the back by Kraven. The Skull flees to his submarine, only to be pursued by Namora, who captures him. Fury then informs all of the Skull's troops that the man they've followed isn't the real Red Skull. They then open his suitcase, showing some kind of MacGuffin. Fury then demands to the Skull as to what he did. As the Skull curses him, Sabretooth responds by decapitating him. Fury berates Sabretooth for such a reckless move, for they needed him alive. But Sabretooth doesn't care.[3]
The group reformed in 1959 with new members to stop Geoffrey Sydenham and his terrorist group ICON.[4] The Blonde Phantom joins the team.[5] The Avengers fight their way across the South China Sea, while Nick Fury hijacks a jet fighter to rendezvous with the team in Madripoor, where their occult adversaries have a hellish gauntlet awaiting them in the garden district of the capital.[6] From the beaches, shanty towns, and mean streets of Madripoor, to the elegant boulevards of Wakanda, Fury and the Avengers fight their way through a treacherous gauntlet to learn the truth behind ICON.[7] The Avengers confront ICON to stop them from starting a third World War against Russia. After the final mission the team goes defunct and it's members go their separate ways.[8]See Also
