Synopsis for the 1st Story
At New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, archaeologist Paul Weisman and his assistant Ito attend the presentation of an ancient scroll purportedly from Atlantis. Jodi is also there as part of a school field trip. After the presentation, Weisman and Jodi’s teacher chat with the scroll’s discoverer while a group of men surround the scroll. They transform into demons and attack the crowd as their leader reveals himself as a wizard and steals the scroll. Ito, a trained warrior, fights the demons, and Jodi joins him as the rest of her class flees. Jodi is quickly overwhelmed, but Ito saves her at the cost of his own life. Weisman—whose real name is Azrum and is a wizard himself—recognizes the wizard as his old enemy Haroth. Sensing power in Jodi, Haroth attacks. Azrum tries to protect her but is soon overpowered. To escape, he has Jodi use his magic scepter to teleport them away. At PSI headquarters, Dr. Branum has finished his tests on Gramalkin so Backlash takes the young man to the facility’s recreation center and introduces him to Omni. Dingo is there as well, but he remains bitter over Gramalkin blinding him in one eye during their fight. Backlash reminds him that Gramalkin was under Uni-Con’s control. Next, Backlash visits Taboo’s quarters but leaves when an alarm sounds due to a security breach. Unbeknownst to him, she is behind the door hanging silently from the ceiling. Jodi and Azrum have materialized outside the building. She asks where they are, and he explains the scepter transported them to where she feels safest. Their arrival triggered the alarm, and Backlash arrives to investigate with Dingo, Gramalkin, and Omni. As Jodi hugs her father, Azrum recognizes him and kneels, pledging his service.
