Overview
Bane is a super-criminal who uses his intellect, wrestling skills, and, most importantly, his ultra-steroid Venom in an effort for world domination.
History

Before Metropolis
In his early life, Bane was a prisoner of Peña Duro, a prison on the island of Santa Prisca. Having been hardened by his upbringing, the man who would become Bane trained his body and his mind to become an upstoppable force of hatred. After finally escaping from his confinement, Bane experimented with the super-steroid Venom, which enhanced his strength beyonnd that of any mortal man.
Prior to the destruction of Metropolis, Bane travelled to Gotham City, where he sought to challenge its vigilante protector Batman. Bane successfully broke Batman's spine on one occassion before the Bat recovered and defeated him.
Four Years of Superman's Regime
Trapped for four years
Sometime after the destruction of Metropolis by the Joker and Superman's decision to institute a One-Earth Regime, Bane was rounded up with a majority of the world's criminals and moved to a new super-prison Superman's totalitarian allies constructed at the bottom of a trench within the ocean. For four years, Bane remained there, laying dormant as Batman's Insurgency wrestled for control from the dictator.
At the end of the fourth year of Superman's rule, Plastic Man broke into the super-prison and released all the prisoners to rescue his son Luke. Bane was now free and sought to terrorize the world once again.[1]
Year Five

Bane, despite his imprisonment, was not bitter at the Man of the Steel. Bane managed to track down Superman and observed as the dictator battled for his life against Doomsday.[2] Bane had the oppurtunity to join the fight, overwhelm Superman, and end the Regime himself, but instead chose to join in Superman's defense, giving Kent the upperhand he needed to defeat Doomsday.
In exchange for his service, Bane asked to join the ranks of Superman's Regime - a request that Superman did not take lightly, as teaming up with supervillains seemed antithetical to his goal for totalitarian peace. Superman agreed anyway, allowing Bane to join as one of his enforcers, sparing the villain from more prison time and opening the door for more criminals to join the Regime in the future.[3]

Possible Post-Regime Epilogue
Upon beating "Classic" mode in Injustice: Gods Among Us or "Multiverse" mode in Injustice 2 with any playable fighter, the player would receive a possible alternate ending to the game's story featuring their fighter. These alternate histories should not be seen as relevant to future sequels or comic adaptations.
Superman had been a fool to believe Bane would willingly accept a subordinate role in the One-Earth Government. With the High Councilor out of the way, true leadership could begin.
Bane found in Sinestro and Black Adam inspiring examples of ruthless absolute authority. They reciprocated his regard for their talents. The three former villains regained control of the planet and formed a ruling triad that would be uninterrupted until the next phase of Bane's plan.

Make slaves of your guards. Teach them the meaning of despair. We have no more prisons, no police, no Regime left to fight. ... No one left to fight. Any worthy opponent has already fallen. Dios mio. Perhaps victory can be a prison. A possibility I had never imagined."

- This version of the character is exclusive to the continuity of the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us and is an adaptation of Bane. The original character was created by Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench, and Graham Nolan and first appeared in Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1.
