Synopsis for "I Am Bane, Part Five"
Day 5: As Batman and Bane engage in a violent and brutal fight, Batman thinks back to how often his opponents believe this to be the end of him. Even Batman believed that he wouldn’t survive the plane crash that first introduced him to Gotham Girl but yet he’s still here. Batman reflects on how Gotham Girl saved his life and how with her powers, she could be Gotham’s salvation.
With every punch Bane threatens Batman with what he will do once Batman is finally dead. He will kill anyone and everyone important to Batman. And once they are all killed, he will sit on top of one of the city’s skyline gargoyles and watch Gotham burn as the people look up in despair.
Bane begins to get the better of Batman, Bruce near death hears the voice of his mother calling him home. Bane enraged, screams for Batman to acknowledge him and yells “I AM BANE.” Batman responds that he has forgotten something and that while he is Bane, Bruce is still Batman. In that moment, Bane had left himself vulnerable and a smashing headbutt knocks him unconscious.
Batman delirious from the pain speaks with his mother and reminds her that he did not do this for himself, he did this because Gotham Girl needed help, so he helped her. He doesn’t want to die and give up, he went through all this because it’s the right thing to do. His mother responds that Bruce doesn’t need a good death for her to be proud of him.
