William James "Bill" Murray (born September 21, 1950) is an American actor and comedian who first gained exposure on the NBC late-night comedy variety show Saturday Night Live for which he earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program and later starred in a number of critically and commercially successful comedic films, such as Caddyshack, the Ghostbusters films, and Groundhog Day. He gained additional critical acclaim later in his career, starring in Lost in Translation, for which he was nominated for Academy Award for Best Actor. He also starred in Broken Flowers and a series of films directed by Wes Anderson, including Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Moonrise Kingdom.
He portrayed Steve Zissou in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Tommy Crickshaw in Cradle Will Rock, Bunny Breckinridge in Ed Wood and Bob "Bobby" Wiley in What About Bob?. He will voice Baloo in the upcoming film The Jungle Book.
He is the young brother of actor Brian Doyle-Murray.
