Notes

  • This is the last Captain America story of the 1940s. The character is not seen again until Young Men Vol 2 #24 in 1954. This story features only one Captain America story and contains horror tales. The following issue retains the title "Captain America's Weird Tales" but features no Captain America stories.
  • As per the retcon of What If? #4 this appearance is attributed of Captain America is attributed to Jeff Mace.
  • The identity of the Red Skull featured in this story is unexplained, and his identity is confusing when considering the number of retcons that have happened. Clearly, this is not Johann Shmidt as per Tales of Suspense #66 he has been in suspended animation since 1944. The official Marvel Index suggests that it could be George Maxon who posed as the Red Skull and died in Captain America Comics #3. However it may be the Red Skull who battled Jeff Mace earlier in Captain America Comics #61. It seems likely that it is a third, as yet unidentified Red Skull, and would make sense that it was the one who battled Mace as Captain America.
