Synopsis for "Brave New World"
At an empty Halo Corporation building, Grifter consults with Maul to confirm that what he saw after Majestic was defeated by Captain Atom was indeed Void's signature. Though Jeremy is skeptical, he hacks through every tracking system and surveillance satellite and discovers there are actually two energy signatures matching Void.
Meanwhile, Captain Atom flies over North America and notes this Earth's difference from his own. He travels to San Diego which, on his Earth, is partially sunken into the ocean. After inadvertently frightening a bystander, Atom turns into his human guise to easily talk to people without scaring them. He talks to a man about superheroes, such as Superman, being unheard of in this world and learns that this world's heroes are not appreciated by the public. Atom then uses a pay phone to access America's entire information grid and finally realizes that he is truly in an alternate world.
At the Halo Building, Cole reunites the former members of the WildC.A.T.s. He informs everyone that Captain Atom possesses half of Void's energy and recommends the team capture him. Cole himself decides to look for the other person with the Void signature, paramedic Nikola Hanssen. As the others prepare to set out after Captain Atom, Maul questions Cole as to why he is going after after Hanssen alone. Cole states that he honestly doesn't know why but feels compelled to track her by himself.
Meanwhile, Atom decides to find a way back to his world by flying as fast as possible. But, he is again confronted by Majestic. Majestic tells Atom that he is not there to fight but to help him. He takes Atom to his base in Mount Rushmore. Atom is stunned by the level of technology Majestic possesses. Majestic knows Atom came from a parallel Earth and says that, by using his Kheran difference engine, he may find a way to send Atom home. Amazed, Captain Atom questions Majestic as to who he is. Majestic briefs him on his background, including his role as a soldier of the Kherubim people in their near long war against the Daemonites and how that war eventually brought him to Earth. Captain Atom reveals to Majestic that he too is a soldier and admits that being a hero isn't enough to make an impression when "working in the shadow of Superman". Majestic surprises Atom that he previous met Superman and briefly relates his adventures with him. Furthermore, he states that, if he can travel to Captain Atom's universe, so can Atom. Much later, after analyzing and simulating the possible ways to send Atom back to his reality, Majestic is surprised to discover that none will work.
Meanwhile, Nikola Hanssen loses her job due because the Void fragment has left her unable to work. As Nikola leaves the building, Grifter spies on her. Though he is skeptical that Nikola has the fragment, he decides to check on her. He introduces himself to Nikola as an agent of the "Department of Meta-Human Compensation Affairs" and wants to help her. When shaking her hand, Cole suddenly sees a vision of Void. After recovering his senses, Cole tells Nikola that she is "the one".
Back at Mount Rushmore, Captain Atom talks to Majestic and decides to find help from other super-powered beings. But, Majestic warns him that some are not to be trusted. Though Atom listens, he still decides to seek help elsewhere, and he believes that there are organizations similar to those on his Earth that can aid him. After bidding Captain Atom goodbye, Majestic returns to his base and receives a disturbing message from his difference engine. According to the machine, if Captain Atom isn't returned to his Earth, he will start a chain reaction that will destroy the entire universe.
Captain Atom flies to Washington, D.C. and hovers above the White House's front lawn.
