Overview

Robotman (real name Clifford "Cliff" Steele) is a loyal and dedicated member of the Doom Patrol armed with a super-strong and nearly indestructible robot body.

History

Good as the day I was assembled, toots. Now let's go stop old sour-puss!

Becoming a Hero

Cliff Steele became a cyborg with enhanced strength and durability, and joined the Doom Patrol, gaining much respect for team leader Chief, and becoming close with Elasti-Girl.

Battling General Immortus

On one mission, while charging into battle against General Immortus with a shrunken Elasti-Girl in a compartment in his head, Robotman was incapacitated by Immortus until Elasti-Girl disabled his weapon. Robotman knocked Immortus unconscious just before he could kill Negative Man, saving both the day and his friend.

Rog and the Brotherhood

Racing to stop the Brotherhood of Evil from stealing the Statue of Liberty with their giant robot Rog, the Doom Patrol was able to incapacitate Rog with a kick from a sized-up Elasti-Girl, knocking the Brotherhood's two members, Mallah and Mister Morden, out of its cockpit. While Morden slunk away, Robotman punched Mallah unconscious as he flirted with Elasti-Girl.

Tricked by Madame Rouge

After this, the Doom Patrol went on many rescue missions, all of which went very badly. The Chief decided it had to be a spy in their midst, posing as a member of the Doom Patrol and sabotaging all their missions. However, an error in his grammar caused Negative Man to realize the truth: the Chief was the impostor, and was trying to draw suspicion away from himself. Unaware of this, when Negative Man punched the false Chief in the face, Robotman grabbed him and hoisted him into the air. But as the phony Chief revealed himself to be Madame Rouge in disguise, it was too late. Rouge grabbed all three of the remaining members of the team in her elongated hands and began crushing them, offering them seemingly no escape.

• This version of the character is exclusive to the continuity of the Doom Patrol animated shorts and is an adaptation of Robotman. The original character was created by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney, and Bruno Premiani and first appeared in My Greatest Adventure #80.
