Synopsis for "There Shall Come a Great Darkness"Edit

The protagonist of this story is a man whose wife has recently committed suicide at the approach of a wave of darkness astronomers have detected will reach Earth today. His astronomer friend finds him sitting in the park feeding pigeons waiting for the end. The astronomer demands to know what happened to his sister, and the man tells him that his wife committed suicide. A mob comes up to the two and hangs the astronomer for being the first to bring the bad news. With the appointed hour fast approaching, the man returns home and wheels his wife's corpse outside. Holding hands, they watch the sun go out together.
