An area of space around the Earth. Anything within it that cannot resist the gravitational pull of the Earth will rotate around the Earth inside it. Carnage was apparently killed by the Sentry there. The first astronauts usually stayed within Earth Orbit, because they didn't have the technology to go any further away from the Earth safely.
