Synopsis for "Crossing Swords"

On Muir Island, Nightcrawler battles the Acolyte Spoor who has escaped from Moira MacTaggert’s Mutant Research Center. Eager to die, Spoor uses his powers to make Kurt smash his head with a rock, but Shadowcat saves him by making his head intangible. Just after Excalibur turns Spoor over to Moira, Professor X, Cyclops, and Jean Grey arrive. Xavier asks Kitty to lure Colossus to the island so they can treat his head wound and convince him to quit the Acolytes. Unwilling to deceive Peter, she initially refuses, but Xavier talks her into it. Aboard the space station Avalon, Colossus receives a transmission from Kitty asking to join him. Exodus suspects it is a trap but, wanting Peter to sever all personal ties to the X-Men, gives him an hour to visit her. In Arizona, Cable’s AI Professor intercepts the transmission, and Cable decides to teleport to Muir and attack Colossus in revenge for Magneto ravaging his body. Back on Muir, Nightcrawler reviews Excalibur’s declining membership with Cyclops, including Widget’s disappearance in the timestream with Captain Britain, Kylun’s departure to find his parents, and Micromax’s job offer in the U.S. Meanwhile, Jean finds Rachel sulking on the shore and apologizes for rejecting her in the past. Then, she reveals she has plans which may soon result in Rachel being born in this timeline. Shadowcat waits alone until Colossus teleports before her. On the far side of the island, Cable climbs ashore only for Phoenix to grab him telekinetically. Peter and Kitty talk until he realizes she has lured him into a trap, and Nightcrawler restrains him. Cable and Phoenix fight, and he is shocked she can read his mind and hear Professor. When Rachel uses her time-shifting power to dodge a blast, parts of her body suddenly switch with those of Captain Britain. In a lab, Moira has Cyclops use his optic blast to repair Colossus’ head injury. Outside, Brian asks for Cable’s help, but Rachel returns and knocks Cable out with a psionic blast. She wonders about the connection she feels with Cable, but Professor tells her it can wait. A trio of Acolytes arrive to retrieve Colossus, and Nightcrawler goes out to meet them. Inside, Colossus reverts to human form and breaks down crying, blaming himself for his sister Illyana’s death. Kitty holds him and absolves him of his guilt. Cyclops and Phoenix aid Kurt against the Acolytes until Peter stops the battle by declaring he will return to Avalon. He and Kitty kiss goodbye, and he teleports away with the Acolytes. Later, Kurt, Kitty, and Rachel tell Cyclops they have decided to stay on Muir Island and work with Moira.
