After an experiment on a strange meteor fragment, Reed Richards wants to take a rocket to the Blue Area of the Moon where it came from. While they are blasting off over in the Soviet Union, the Red Ghost and his trained apes fly into space as well, in a ship that will allow them to be exposed to even more Cosmic Rays than the Fantastic Four during their maiden flight into space.

Arriving on the moon at the same time, the Red Ghost attacks the Fantastic Four with his Super-Apes, drawing the attention of Uatu the Watcher. The Watcher explains that his race has been charged with watching and recording the history of the universe. Growing wear of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, the Watcher has the FF and the Red Ghost battle to determine which nation is more superior.

The Fantastic Four easily defeat the Red Ghost, who is then left on the moon at the mercy of his Super-Apes who turn on him for his previous cruelty towards them.
