Synopsis for "Follow the Leader"

The Blackbird has crashed in an Antarctic snowstorm with Cyclops, Storm, and Professor X aboard. Cyclops’s visor is lost so Xavier telepathically guides him, and they go find Storm. Nearby, Upstart Siena Blaze praises herself for bringing the plane down with her powers and asks her support station crew to confirm the three X-Men’s deaths. When Gamesmaster appears and reveals the X-Men live, Blaze kills the crew. Gamesmaster reminds her that her power threatens Earth’s electromagnetic field and says four of the world’s most powerful mutants are in the area. At Xavier’s School, Psylocke tells Bishop that Cerebro detected a mutant signature when they lost contact with the Blackbird. Back in Antarctica, the three X-Men recall being attacked after leaving the Savage Land and how they used their powers to survive the crash. Due to the electromagnetic disruption, Storm is unable to dispel the snowstorm and passes out from the strain. After retrieving her, Cyclops and Xavier discuss the sacrifices Xavier has made and Scott’s insistence on calling the professor by his title and not his name. Psylocke and Bishop approach Antarctica in a second Blackbird but stop when she detects the electromagnetic distortion, fearing it could cause them to crash, too. Storm wakes up and asks Cyclops if Forge knew she loved him; Scott assures her she can tell him herself. The next morning, they discover Xavier has left on an ATV from the cargo hold. Some distance away, Xavier tracks a presence he sensed to a mysterious tower, but his ATV stalls, and he passes out. Within an hour, Storm and Cyclops find him using jury-rigged sensors, but Blaze finds them and attacks. When they ask why she wants to kill them, she tries to justify her nihilistic worldview. Blaze starts building up another electromagnetic burst so Cyclops blasts her into the side of a glacier. When she unleashes the energy, Storm uses wind to channel it up into the sky. Blaze prepares to teleport away, boasting that the effect will create a lethal vacuum, but the three X-Men escape in the Blackbird’s escape pod. Bishop detects them just as he and Psylocke are about to return to the school. Later, Xavier recalls being saved by the tower’s resident before Cyclops and Storm found him. Below, his shadowy rescuer watches the Blackbird fly away.
