| Quotation = Now let us walk the streets together...and share the secrets of Achmed el-Gibar.| Speaker = Storm
| StoryTitle1 = Memories| Synopsis1 = Joined by Gambit and Phoenix, Storm arrives in Cairo to see her dying mentor, thief Achmed el-Gibar. She recalls how his gang of child thieves found her after her parents’ death, and he took her in and taught her how to steal. At an airfield outside the city, the immortal mutant Candra is met by her henchman Bond. She wants one of el-Gibar’s current thieves, a latent mutant named Jamil. Bond offers to kill el-Gibar, but Candra rejects the idea. On a Cairo street, a young girl named Karima snatches Phoenix’s purse and Gambit’s wallet, but Storm catches her. Realizing Karima is one of el-Gibar’s wards, Storm tells Karima to inform him of her arrival. Soon, Jamil stops the three X-Men outside el-Gibar’s home and, wielding knives, refuses to let them in. Karima fails to talk him down, and he attacks, but Phoenix telekinetically slams him into a wall. As the X-Men go inside, Jamil flees and runs into Candra who offers to mentor him. Storm goes to el-Gibar’s bedside, and they reminisce. Suddenly, Bond barges in with Candra and Jamil, and she declares Jamil will take over el-Gibar’s gang once he dies. Gambit fights with Bond, but Candra decides not to challenge Storm and leaves with Bond and Jamil. Afterward, el-Gibar asks Storm to save Jamil from Candra. Storm wants to go alone, but Gambit and Phoenix insist on joining her. They brace local crooks for information until Jamil and a gang of assassins ambush them in an alley. Storm blows the gang away with a wind gust, but Candra arrives with Bond and telekinetically collapses a wall on top of the three X-Men, triggering Storm’s claustrophobia. Phoenix shields them with her powers and coaxes Storm back to lucidity. Storm then blows the rubble off them, and they take off after Candra. At a palatial estate, Candra orders Jamil to kill a captive Karima as a show of loyalty, but the X-Men arrive in time to stop him. Storm challenges Candra to single combat, and they face off in the desert outside the city. Storm overpowers Candra as Gambit defeats Bond, and Phoenix fends off Jamil. Candra starts to recover, but Karima stabs her in the hand. Jamil refuses to return to el-Gibar and leaves with Candra and Bond. Later, el-Gibar asks Storm to train Karima as the thieves’ leader, and Storm agrees. He passes away, and Storm conjures a sandstorm in tribute.
