I'm not a man... I'm an animal!
--Beast Boy src

Beast Boy is a member of the Teen Titans. He wears a black and purple Doom Patrol uniform, complete with gray gloves and purple sneakers. Though he appears to be the youngest member of the team, he believes himself to be a ladies man, and sees his pointy ears as being one of his attractive qualities. He is a vegetarian, having been most of the meat-producing animals.[1] He also enjoys playing pranks, and is prone to causing much of the mischief around Titans Tower, such as the time he kept a large mutant moth larva hidden in his bedroom.[2] The larva, which he dubs Silkie, devours much of the Tower while the team is on a mission fighting Johnny Rancid. After this Beast Boy entrusts Silkie to Starfire to hide his pet from the others, but she ends up adopting the creature.

Beast Boy had a romantic relationship with a girl named Terra who had the ability to control earth. However, Terra betrays the Teen Titans as an ally of Slade. Ultimately, she receives redemption in helping the Titans defeat Slade, but is turned into stone in the process. Beast Boy retains feelings for Terra until he finds her reborn with seemingly no memory of him or her time as a Titan, and he finally accepts her loss.[3]

Powers

  • Animal Mimicry: Through an act of will, Beast Boy can transform his body into any known animal on the planet Earth. When assuming the form of another animal, he also adopts that particular animal's physical characteristics. If he turns into a bird, he can fly. If he turns into a gorilla, he gains enhanced strength, etc. But all his animals that he transform into he will always be green, just like his human form. Beast Boy can always revert back to his human form at any time of his choosing. It can be proven that these are animals that Beast Boy has only learned about and/or seen.[4]
  • "Mutated Mode" (formerly): After a fight with the villain Adonis, Beast Boy and Adonis both were covered with a mutating slime that first changed their personality, then later gave them a new animal to turn into. However, they could not control this power and they frequently transformed against their will. Beast Boy was later cured of this power and can no longer transform into the monster.[5]
  • Transformation" (formerly): Beast Boy was temporarily given the power to transform into anything by Trigon. When Trigon was forced out of their dimension, Beast Boy immediately lost his power.[6]

Abilities

  • Titans head writer, David Slack intentionally wrote Raven and Beast Boy as a "married couple", hence the relationship was one of deep loyalty and affection, but also laced with conflicting personality clashes. This "tough love" relationship between Beast Boy and Raven is continued in Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo (Movie), also written by Slack.
  • Beast Boy's nicknames include B.B. and Beasty-Boo.
