Synopsis for "Ninth Planet"

Mourning the death of his twin sister Valerie, teenager Spencer Diamond drives into the countryside and comes upon the Ninth Planet nightclub. Inside, a disguised Lord Silverfall greets him and shows him into the bar. As Spencer describes his sister’s illness and death, Glory criticizes Silverfall for manipulating the boy. Silverfall reminds her of their deal and introduces her to Spencer as his waitress. Spencer orders soup and talks about how close he was to Valerie. Suddenly, a tentacle reaches out of his soup and pulls him into it. Glory grabs his shirt, and it pulls her in as well. They find themselves floating in a surreal space, and Valerie is there, alive. After Glory fends off an attack from the tentacled monster, she and Spencer reappear in the club. Freaked out, he tries to leave, but a monster blocks his exit. He tries another door only to face a torch-bearing mob. He runs into the kitchen and find a funeral in progress. The attendees force him into the coffin and put it in a cremation furnace, but Glory intervenes and saves him. Silverfall enters with Valerie, Spencer embraces her, and they leave for college. Glory asks Silverfall why he gave them such a happy ending, but he says they chose it themselves. She then asks him about Lady Demeter’s strange behavior, and he tells her that woman is not her mother.

Notes

• The series was cancelled after this issue. In March 1999, Glory Vol 2 #0 introduced a new version of Glory with a revised origin and backstory by writer Alan Moore. In 2012, Image Comics revived this series with Glory #23 featuring another new version of Glory with a different origin and history by writer Joe Keatinge.

Trivia

• Due to the series' cancellation, the storylines involving Lady Demeter's behavior and the war with Vulcan and Neptune are never resolved.
