Synopsis for "Friends and Enemies part 1: The First Cut"
In Dana Point, Ultra assassin Hardwire slaughters drug runner Jonny Wong, Wong’s lover, and his henchmen. Later, LAPD Detective Chuck Brown is reviewing photos of the murder scene when Hardcase and Choice arrive to talk with him. Hardcase references Brown’s visit to his house, and Brown reveals he has never been there; the visitor was an impostor. Brown then mentions the Ultra assassin, and Hardcase agrees to help in exchange for Brown getting him an appointment with Choice Corporation CEO Bob Dixon. Hardcase and Choice go to Dixon’s office, and Hardcase warns him to stop trying to capture her. Choice’s conditioning prevents her from speaking for herself. Dixon says she has a contract with the company, denies trying to abduct her, and tells them to leave. In a Los Angeles drainage canal, two boys find NM-E’s head in a pile of debris. It takes control of one boy and kills the other. In Century City, Rex Mundi meets with organized crime boss Sandra Trent a.k.a. the Operator and demands her help in killing Hardcase. Meanwhile, Hardcase and Choice are on their way home when they encounter a woman calling herself the Alternate. She warns Hardcase about Mundi and offers her help. The Operator calls Hardwire to hire him, but when he learns Hardcase is his target, he says he will do the job for free. That evening, Hardcase takes Choice out for dinner and dancing. On their way home, they stop at a gas station so she can use the restroom. Hardwire is there, introduces himself, and uses his powers to slash open Hardcase’s abdomen. Choice exits the restroom and finds Hardcase bleeding out, unaware Hardwire is about to attack her from behind.
