Synopsis for "Rapture"

The Sun goes nova, incinerating the inner planets including Paradise Omega and Earth. All stars throughout the universe follow suit, destroying all life. The Goddess intends for this “Rapture” to spread across the Multiverse but suddenly finds herself back in her subterranean chamber with Thanos. He reveals it was all an illusion. Adam Warlock appears in spirit form and explains he used the Cosmic Egg to create the deception. Enraged, the Goddess leaves her body and attacks Warlock on the spiritual plane. With the catatonic Professor X under his control, Thanos comes to Warlock’s aid, and they psionically overpower her. She flees back to her body, but Warlock stops her from using the Cosmic Egg and has Thanos blast them both with the Soul Gem. Warlock returns to his body aboard Thanos’s starship while Thanos teleports the superheroes on the surface back to Avengers Mansion. Warlock teleports into the chamber, and Thanos explains he has directed the Egg to move Paradise Omega out of the solar system and self-destruct. At Avengers Mansion, the Goddess’s former thralls are free from her control and reunite with their fellow superheroes. Thor flies off as the rest try to make sense of what has occurred. Aboard Thanos’s ship, he and Warlock watch Paradise Omega explode. Warlock notes Thanos’s heroic behavior, but Thanos insists he acted out of self-interest and teleports Warlock to Avengers Mansion. Upset by what they have experienced, Hulk and She-Hulk confront Warlock so he has Pip teleport him and the Infinity Watch to Monster Isle. Firelord visits Starfox on Titan and is stunned to find he has no memory of the Goddess’s assault. Back at Avengers Mansion, Dr. Strange tells Hulk, Mr. Fantastic, and Professor X that the public is writing off the Rapture as a mass hallucination. Storm tells Wolverine she feels guilty for letting the Goddess use her, but he assures her the Goddess was the one at fault. On Monster Isle, Warlock broods as Moondragon is dismayed by her behavior while in the Goddess’s thrall. In Soul-World, the Goddess approaches Autolycus, but he is unaware of her presence. The Magus explains that, like him, she is just an aspect of Warlock and thus invisible to full spirits. She lashes out at him, and they discover they are immaterial even to each other. In New York, Daredevil and Spider-Man lament the return of crime while, on the Israeli-Lebanese border, the Silver Surfer tearfully watches border guards shoot a squad of armed fighters. Mephisto appears aboard Thanos’s ship, and Thanos provides him the Cosmic Cube he was promised. He tries to use it to eliminate Thanos, but nothing happens. Thanos explains Mephisto never specified that he wanted a functional Cube. Vowing revenge, Mephisto teleports away. Afterward, Thanos muses that salvation only lies within and that is why he depends solely on himself.
