Jann dives down and confronts Kabubi and challenges him to a battle, forcing him to engage in combat with her or lose face in front of his warriors. Jann's superior fighting skills prove her the victor and Kabubi's fellow tribes men reject his ideas. Kabubi slinks off into the jungle vowing to get revenge against Jann. He seeks out a man named Paulo unaware that Jann is following him and gets a bottle of "the poison of hatred" to put in his tribe's drinking water to make them go to war against the Makasi tribe so both he and Paulo can take over the jungle. Kabubi then goes back to his village and pours the poison into the water barrel unaware that Jann is watching him do this.

When he believes his people are caught in the thrall of the poison, he gathers them to go to war against the Makasi. But he is shocked when instead of joining Paulo's men, they fight them. Jann arrives and joins the fight, revealing that she tipped off the entire tribe and they only pretended to drink the tainted water.
