
Personal History
Leo O'Mealia was born in LeRoy, New York. He married Mary Ellen Goschar and the couple had three children: Mary, Leo Edward Jr., and Grayce. Leo died on May 7, 1960 at the age of 76.
Professional History
Leo was a sports cartoonist for the Rochester Herald, the Rochester Times, The Globe and the New York Daily News. He was also the creator of a popular syndicated comic strip called Wedlock. While at the New York Daily News, he had two famous front page cartoons: Oct. 5, 1955 "Who's a Bum" when the Brooklyn Dodgers won the World Series in 7 game against the NY Yankees; and July 9, 1956 called "Hello Golfers," a drawing of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, to signal the opening day of the New York Daily News-sponsored Ike Golf Tournament. Leo O'Mealia was also known for his work on early issues of Action Comics, Adventure Comics and Detective Comics in the late 1930's.

Trivia
Leo's work is featured in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York.
