Synopsis for "Requiem for a Super-Hero"

Perry assigns Lois and Clark to cover the "ultimate street fight", a boxing match featuring four title fights across all four divisions of boxing. Lois reluctantly agrees to cover the story, irked that Perry has relegated her to covering sports. Perry confesses that he wants the duo to cover the match due to Lois' "connections", mainly her father, Dr. Sam Lane, a world-renowned figure in the sports medicine business.

After meeting trainer Allie Dinello, an old Lane family friend, at the local gym, and a confrontational encounter with fight promoter Max Menken and boxer Tommy Garrison, Lois and Clark run into Lois' father, leading to a very awkward and detached conversation between father and daughter. Lois later explains to Clark that Sam was an absent father, and that their relationship has been strained for years.

After Allie is murdered in front of Lois, Lois confronts her father, who denies all involvement. Undeterred, Lois and Clark sneak in to his office and learn that the boxers have been implanted with motorized prosthetic limbs and joints. Despite the desire to break the scandal, Clark convinces Lois to sit on the story, less Sam become a target as well.

Unbeknownst to everyone other than Menken, Lex Luthor has been funding the robotics project, with his ultimate goal being to create even more powerful men to use to defeat Superman. However, Sam gets cold feet and decides to leave the project, recording incriminating conversations with Menken about the fighting scandal and Allie's murder. Giving his tapes over to Lois and Clark, he goes into hiding.

With the scandal leaking, Luthor decides to clean up loose ends by having Menken kidnap Lois to get to Sam. However, Luthor double-crosses Menken, and shoots him dead, saving Lois's life in the process. Superman shows up seconds later, disappointed to see that Lois has swooned for Luthor. However, he leaves, and makes handy work of Garrison and the rest of the boxers, saving the day once again.
