Synopsis for "Enigma of Fear!"

In a secret AIM base, Kerwin Korman and an AIM agent review footage of Ms. Marvel’s battle with Scorpion and assess her superhuman powers. AIM has discovered her costume contains advanced technology enabling her to fly, and they want Korman to capture her for further study. Korman demands more money, but the agent is skeptical given Ms. Marvel’s defeat of Scorpion. AIM recovered Scorpion after the battle and placed him in a healing capsule. To demonstrate his power, Korman fires a tachyon blast from an emitter on his helmet and dubs himself Destructor. At the Daily Bugle, Mary Jane Watson finds Carol Danvers working late, and they go out to dinner. At the restaurant, Carol relates her previous career in security at Cape Kennedy and her encounters with Captain Marvel. Carol feels a blackout coming on, hails a taxi to take her home, and passes out in the back. Meanwhile, Destructor traces Ms. Marvel’s first appearance to Florida, investigates the cave where Captain Marvel fought Yon-Rogg, and detects a massive amount of radiation he deduces empowered Ms. Marvel. Back in the AIM base, Scorpion breaks free. He discovers the base is hidden beneath a New York City department store and escapes onto the street. The next morning, Carol wakes up in her bedroom with no memory of how she got there. She panics and hurries to the office of her friend, psychiatrist Michael Barnett. He hypnotizes her, and she recalls being exposed to intense radiation from a Kree device during Captain Marvel’s battle with Yon-Rogg. Seemingly unaffected, she returned to work at Cape Kennedy, but her failure to capture Captain Marvel ruined her career, and she quit to become a writer. Six months later, she had her first blackout and transformed into Ms. Marvel. Barnett dismisses it as a delusion, wakes her up, and tells Carol the hypnosis did not work. She faints again, turns into Ms. Marvel, and flies out a window, leaving Barnett astonished. Guided by her “seventh sense”, Ms. Marvel finds Scorpion trashing Columbus Circle. They fight, and she drops him on top of a large statue. Just then, Destructor stuns her with a tachyon blast to the back. She recovers and kicks him into a fire hydrant, knocking him out, and then passes out herself.
