Synopsis for "The Great Escape"
Cable repairs his cybernetic hand while Freedom Force tries and fails to intimidate him into working for them. They reveal that the MLF has stolen tritium, a component of nuclear weapons, from the facilities they attacked. In New York, the New Mutants return to ship and reunite with X-Factor. Back at Freedom Force’s base, Cable knocks out his guards and escapes his cell. Aboard Ship, X-Factor and the New Mutants watch footage of Freedom Force arresting Rusty and Skids. Cyclops calls Freedom Force and demands the two be released to X-Factor. The New Mutants want to break them out, but Beast reminds them Freedom Force has government sanction. In Washington, D.C., Freedom Force discuss Cyclops’s demand and their desire to keep Rusty and Skids’ escape a secret. A guard informs Mystique of Cable’s breakout, and she orders the team to recapture him. Cable fends off Blob and Pyro then jumps out a window. Back on Ship, Cannonball calls his mother while Boom-Boom tries to impress Rictor with a sexy new outfit, but he blows her off in favor of talking to Wolfsbane. Jealous, she throws a dud timebomb at him, and they exchange insults. Back in Washington, Cable stops Super Sabre from chasing him and runs for Freedom Force’s helicopter. In New York, Wolfsbane talks with her foster mother Moira MacTaggert via a videocall. Sam and Roberto note Moira is acting oddly, and then she shocks Rahne by demanding her return to Muir Island. Over Rahne’s objections, Moira plans to pick her up tomorrow. In D.C., Cable escapes in the helicopter before Freedom Force can catch him.

Trivia
- Moira is being uncharacteristically harsh because, during this period, she is under the telepathic influence of the Shadow King.
- Nathan Summers appears as both an infant and the adult Cable in the same timeframe, not only in the same comic, but on the same page. This comic was published before it was decided that the two would become the same character.
- Super Sabre is incorrectly called Silver Sabre this issue.
