Synopsis for "Ruins"
After three days of trekking through the Amazon jungle, Firestar, Cannonball, and Warpath reach the hidden city of Nova Roma. Nova Roman soldiers attack them, but the three swiftly defeat them with their powers. Then, Empath arrives with Magma and welcomes them. At a Manhattan restaurant, Nova enjoys a date with Laura Dunham but is embarrassed when she has to help cover the bill. Back in the Amazon, the Nova Romans hold a feast in their guests’ honor. Cannonball asks why their communications systems are down, and Firestar explains they came to tell Empath and Magma of the other Hellions’ deaths. Empath and Magma are oddly unfazed by the news. Sensing something wrong, Firestar sets out to investigate that night, but Empath uses his mind-control power to set Cannonball, Magma, and Warpath against her. In Connecticut, Speedball tells his father he is moving in with his mom in Manhattan. When his father protests, he leaves and returns to the Crash Pad. He meets up with Rage who reveals the Pad has sub-levels they did not know about. In Nova Roma, Firestar subdues Cannonball and Warpath and evades Magma. When Empath lets it slip that her microwave powers immunize her against his abilities, Firestar unleashes a massive burst that frees the entire population from his control. Empath breaks down crying and claims the history of Nova Roma as a lost Roman colony was a lie concocted by Selene and that its population consists of people she kidnapped and magically brainwashed. He says Selene’s spell began to fade so he used his powers to keep the illusion going. When Magma asks who she really is, Empath tells her she is a British girl named Allison Crestmere. He then says he will help all Nova Romans reclaim their real lives. Two days later at the Massachusetts Academy, Warpath retrieves all the files on the Hellions, and Firestar incinerates them. That night, she lets Namorita create a new costume for her.
