As 'Voltage', Ruby Fox was a member of the 1960s super team Cloud 9 until its dissolution. After this, having supposedly lost her powers (actually a lie), Ruby became a magazine editor and retired to a normal life until, in 1987, the Nazi supervillain Masterman resurfaced after several decades in suspended animation and began preparing for the conquest of Earth by his demonic extra-dimensional masters the Lloigor. Attacked by Masterman, Ruby reactivated her long-dormant powers to save her life, then recruited her former teammates Peter St John and Siadwel Rhys and the young superhuman Zenith to battle the threat.

Unfortunately, years later Ruby and the other survivors of Cloud 9 (except St John) plus others including the girl Blaze (a clone of the deceased Cloud 9 member White Heat) became corruptedthumb|left|Evolved Ruby and, after incubating in the Sun, effectively evolved into the Lloigor themselves. They believed they had destroyed the Earth and conquered the universe, but in reality St John trapped them in a pocket universe within the creature called Chimera, where presumably they still remain.
