HistoryEdit

Samantha Eve Wilkins is a superhero, who appears in the comic book Invincible, which is published by Image Comics. Her codename is Atom Eve. She has the dramatic ability to alter the atomic structure of almost everything around her. These powers are as minor as converting her clothes into a superhero costume, or transforming an entire section of African savanna to a split-level house.

Despite her enormous powers, Eve is insecure about how others view her and her abilities.

Early life

Atom Eve was a child created by the government to be a weapon. At birth, she was switched with a dead baby, going home with a caring family. At a very young age she was a prodigy in science and received a scholarship to a prestigious school. Her scientific ability turned out to be an early manifestation of her powers.

A man approached her one day, warning Eve that her powers may be her downfall and encouraged her to never to use them again.

Superhero Career

Prior to the first issue of Invincible, Atom Eve joined the Teen Team as an after-school superhero. She soon started a friendship with Invincible after the two met saving a shipment of video game consoles from a Mauler twin. Eve & Mark are around each other so much that many people (teacher, students, parents) believe there is something going on between the two even though they continue to say that they are "just friends". After finding out Rex Splode, her boyfriend, was cheating on her with Dupli-Kate, she was sick for days. Although she did not join the new Guardians of the Globe along with her Teen Team teammates, she continued as an active superhero for some time. However she eventually decided that her talents were being wasted on superheroics and that she could do more good elsewhere. Subsequently she quit superhero work and moved to Africa to engage in aid work.

Invincible met with a future version of Atom Eve that confessed her undying love for him. She instructed him to either tell her either that he (Invincible) loved her, or that he hated, or didn't want anything to do with her romantically so that she (Eve) could get on with her life.[1]

While Invincible is recovering from the incident with the Reanimen, he flies to meet Eve, whom he had not talked to since the fight with Angstrom Levy. After sharing a friendly hug and an awkward pause afterward, they share a passionate kiss. Immediately afterward, however, Mark apologizes and voices his guilt at going behind his girlfriend's back, and is relieved to be called to fight off an alien invasion.[2]

Eve learns from Mark's roommate that he has recently broken up with Amber and she then confronts him to find out if they are going out now (as she has long since realized her feeling for him). Mark is glad but makes the mistake of informing her that he already knew how she felt (due to encountering the older version). This drives a wedge between the two. Eventually they do get together.

Tired of having to sneak around their parents, Eve comes up with a plan for the duo to get their own house. Mark acts as a super powered security guard for several secure facilities so that they can get the money they need to buy their own home. Eve is injured fighting alternate reality version of Mark (all with his power levels) and is then killed by Conquest (sent to check on Mark's progress). Eve manages to recreate her body (Mark notices that her breasts had appeared to be enhanced, though Eve does not remember consciously doing so) but Oliver is a bit skeptical of her condition as it takes great mental concentration to do something as difficult as creating a human body (atom by atom) from scratch and since her death, her powers have been acting up.

Eve recently took a pregnancy test (in private) and it revealed that she is pregnant with Mark's child. [3] This may be why her powers are starting to cut out, and also may be the real reason behind the increase in her breast size mentioned by Mark. As of yet, she has not revealed her pregnancy to him.

Powers and AbilitiesEdit

Powers

  • Transmutation: Atom Eve is able to manipulate matter at the sub-atomic level by sheer will power. Organic and inorganic matter can be changed into anything she desires. She can augment normally unhealthy food such as cakes and other sweets into nutritious foods as well as re-arrange the environment. Her costume is easily created by altering her clothes to fashion her Atom Eve suit. She can also fly by lowering the density of the air around her as well as creating force fields.[4]

A downside to Atom Eve's transmutation powers is that she absorbs any unused atoms into her body, which must later be eliminated from her system as waste. She claims that on days when she uses her powers a lot she can "go to the bathroom" six or seven times.[5]
