History

Religion[]

The Shi'ar is said to have descended from alien knowledge about the Phoenix Force. They believed the Phoenix was the creative force of the universe which was imprisoned by creating Earth. The religion once had a way of communicating with the Phoenix, but the art was lost over time.

Several centuries ago, a group of the Shi'ar, calling themselves the Hellfire Club, seeing the Phoenix as a being of destruction.

Finding the Avatar[]

The Shi'ar believed that a young mutant, Jean Grey, to be the avatar and/or host of the Phoenix. The Majestrix of the Church, Lilandra, contacted Charles Xavier, Headmaster of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, offering him funding in exchange for testing on Grey to see if she possessed the Phoenix or not.

Notes

Unlike their Earth-616 counterpart, the Shi'ar are not alien, just humans.
