Synopsis for "Intellectual Exercise!"

The Bash Brothers—Burke and Munroe—beat up Sludge and knock him out. Shelley Rogers berates them, saying she and Sludge never got the chance to explain why they came. When Sludge awakens and asks to see Lalama, they tell him Lalama is in New York. As Sludge, Rogers, the Brothers, Vinaigrette, and Organism 0.9B drive to Manhattan, Vinaigrette reveals Doc Gross abandoned her in New York at birth, and she grew up on the streets until Lalama found her. Now, she works as a thief to fund his clinic. Upon arrival in Manhattan, she and 0.9B leave, and the others enter Lalama’s apartment. Inside, they find a glowing energy field and a computer playing a strange sound. The Bash Brothers figure out the field is a portal generated by the computer using Lalama’s genetic analysis program. Reasoning Lalama went through the portal, the Brothers go after him, and Sludge and Rogers follow. They emerge in the air over an alien swamp. Burke catches a falling Rogers and flirts with her. Disgusted, Munroe calls him out, and they start fighting. Dr. Lalama appears, covered in small, puffy creatures called Dweeks, and tells them to stop. To dissipate their adrenaline, the Brothers head butt each other unconscious. The Dweeks avoid Sludge, and he is able to drive them from Lalama’s body. Once the Brothers wake up, they and Sludge help Rogers climb through the portal so she can get a rope for them. Suddenly, the swamp water comes alive and attacks. Sludge and the Brothers fight it until the Dweeks swarm around them. Soon, Rogers drops a rope through the portal, and they climb out with Lalama. Back in his apartment, Munroe destroys the computer, and the portal closes. As Sludge slowly reverts to his larger viscous form, he and Lalama discuss his transformation and potentially using Zuke to restore his human form permanently. Not knowing where to find more Zuke, Sludge leaves. Calling him Hoag, Rogers calls out to him, but he insists she call him Sludge. Back on the alien world, a swarm of Dweeks are devoured by the plant that produces Zuke.
