Synopsis for "The Man of Power"

In a construction site east of San Francisco Bay, a supervillain named Powerhouse tests his superhuman strength by punching boulders and tossing a tractor. Talking to himself, he resolves to keep his identity secret and take revenge on those who wronged him. In Berkeley, Atom Bob and Grenade are walking down the street out of costume when some bystanders recognize them. While Grenade stays to sign autographs, Bob ducks into a bookstore and chats with its owner Moe. A local radio station hears of the two Strangers’ appearance and sends reporter Ken Sinclair—secretly Powerhouse—to cover it. Believing himself superior to everyone, Powerhouse finds Grenade’s self-publicizing insulting, changes into costume in an alley, and announces himself to the crowd. Atom Bob and Grenade change into costume and confront him, but he resists their assault and knocks out Bob. He tells Grenade how he got his powers when an energy bolt struck him as a boy in 1938. When he tried to jump off the barn roof to demonstrate them, his parents had him committed to an insane asylum where he was kept for 55 years. No one believed his powers were real. Last year, the asylum ran out of funds and released him. In the alley, an invisible figure finds Powerhouse’s identification and tells himself the Strangers’ destruction has begun. As Grenade and Powerhouse continue exchanging blows, Atom Bob rises to his feet. Tired from the battle, Powerhouse leaps away but declares he will return. A crowd gathers including Moe, and Grenade leads Atom Bob away, revealing he tried to steal a book from Moe’s store as a boy. Moe recognizes him so he pays Moe back for the book. Moe tells his friends that Grenade turned out just fine.
