NotesEdit

  • In the story "The Longest Night" Namor snaps out of El Diablo's control because he has "never fought an officer of the law", which is in direct contradiction of earlier stories where he fought and even murdered New York police officers, notably in Marvel Mystery Comics #2. This statement is likely less a fact of continuity error (as both stories were written by Sub-Mariner creator Bill Everett) but likely the rules imposed on the comic book industry by the Comic Book Authority Code that came into place in 1955. One of the regulations of the original version of the Code had a rule that lawmen were to be depicted with dignity and respect, so the notion of the Sub-Mariner killing a police officer would have been against the Code rules at that time.
