Synopsis for "Payback"
The X-Men return to the mansion with Jean’s body and the head of one of the Sentinels that attacked them. Professor X says Jean is not dead, but her mind is displaced. In Manhattan, Fitzroy presents Pierce and the White Queen as trophies to Shinobi Shaw and declares himself the new leader of the Upstarts. Unbeknownst to them, Jean has possessed the Queen’s body. When Shaw refuses to hand over the ring signifying leadership, Fitzroy cuts his finger off. Back at the mansion, Forge hacks into the Sentinel head and locates Fitzroy’s base inside an Arctic iceberg. At the base, Fitzroy is talking with his assistant Bantam when two people emerge from a portal fused together. Fitzroy drains their life essences and berates Bantam for failing to track such portals. As the X-Men approach in the Blackbird, Fitzroy absorbs Tarot’s essence and uses it to open a portal from which three mutant mercenaries emerge. One tries to go back through, but doing so kills him; Fitzroy’s portals are one-way. When Fitzroy moves to feed on her, Jean reveals herself, surprising him with her telekinesis. The X-Men arrive and engage his mercenaries. Forge takes Jean to the Blackbird as Fitzroy orders his Sentinels to attack. The X-Men swiftly destroy them so Fitzroy kills the remaining Hellions and uses their energy to open a massive portal to the future. A horde of mutant mercenaries pours out and attacks the X-Men. Three more men emerge from the portal, armed and wearing uniforms with X medallions on them. Fitzroy recognizes their leader as Bishop.
