Synopsis for "X-Cutioner's Song part 1: Overture"
Using an image inducer to hide his blue skin, Archangel picks up his girlfriend Charlotte Jones to attend a Lila Cheney concert in Central Park. At the concert, Professor X reassures Lila before she takes the stage while, in the crowd, Bishop complains to Rogue about the security risk they are taking. Beneath the stage, two anti-mutant terrorists are about to plant a bomb when they are killed by Cable. At Harry’s Hideaway in Salem Center, Jean catches Cyclops fantasizing about Psylocke while Colossus and Iceman shop at the supermarket across the street. Back at the concert, Gambit comforts Storm over her breakup with Forge. X-Factor, including Lila’s ex-bodyguard Strong Guy, watches the concert on TV at a Manhattan hotel. At Harry’s, Scott and Jean argue telepathically then make up, but Caliban a.k.a. Death of Apocalypse’s Horsemen suddenly breaks through a skylight and attacks. In Central Park, Lila finishes her set and invites Professor X on stage to speak. In Salem Center, Colossus and Iceman see bystanders fleeing Harry’s and move to help Scott and Jean, but the other two Horsemen—Famine and War—arrive to intercept them. At the concert, Xavier gives a speech advocating tolerance and mutant rights, but the audience heckles him. Suddenly, he is struck by a gunshot from the crowd, and the shooter is Cable. At Harry’s, Death overpowers Cyclops and Jean then collapses the building. Colossus defeats Famine and War, but they teleport away. In Central Park, Lila, Storm, and Bishop rush to the professor’s side. Archangel engages Cable, but he too teleports away. In Arizona, X-Force gets their TV to work just in time to see a news report on the shooting and that Cable, their mentor, is the assassin.
