Synopsis for "Whispers on the Wind"

A nun named Sister Maria recounts how the children of her rural orphanage found a filthy man suffering from exposure. Fearing for their safety, she tried to warn him off with a shotgun, but he used magnetism to slam her into a wall. The children begged him not to hurt her so he let her go then passed out. Four days later, he awoke tied to a bed. Maria introduced herself, brought him food, and untied him so he could eat. When he revealed he had near-total amnesia, she invited him to stay until he was well. A week later, the orphan Migdalia named him Joseph, and he protected her when she was nearly struck by a bullet from a nearby gunfight. One night, Joseph told Maria he felt guilty of horrible crimes, but she assured him he could be forgiven. A month after his arrival, he was using his magnetic powers to repair a tractor when he caught a local colonel named Ramos spying on him. While Maria spoke with Ramos, Migdalia told Joseph that Ramos worked for smugglers. Six days after that, Joseph saw the orphanage barn burning and discovered Maria and the children were missing. Ramos took credit and tried to blackmail Joseph into working for the smugglers, but Joseph easily overpowered him and made him divulge where Maria and the kids were taken. Held in a church cellar with the children, Maria knew Joseph had come when she heard the sounds of battle outside. Joseph freed them and led them out, but they recoiled in horror upon seeing that he had slaughtered the smugglers. This morning, Joseph decided to leave. Maria gave him a magazine with the X-Men on the cover, encouraged him to go to the U.S. and find them, and hugged him goodbye. Now, suspecting Joseph is Magneto, Maria asks a priest if she did the right thing in helping him. The priest tells her she gave him a second chance at life, and they can only pray for his soul.
