Synopsis for "Know Thy Enemy"
In a destroyed section of the Xavier Institute, Professor X blames himself for the devastation caused by Onslaught. Wolverine reminds him of all the good he has done, and they debate struggling with their inner demons. In Central Park, Bastion watches Graydon Creed spin the deaths of the Avengers and Fantastic Four to the press for his anti-mutant presidential campaign. Head of the Daily Bugle newspaper J. Jonah Jameson watches the event on TV, senses that Creed’s hatred of mutants is personal, and orders his staff to investigate. In the Xavier Institute boathouse, Cyclops hears Creed’s press conference on his clock radio and destroys it with an optic blast in frustration. Beast startles Cyclops in the bathroom, Cyclops reflexively blasts him, and they discuss Dark Beast’s recent theft of his identity. Cyclops slips on a patch of ice created by Iceman as a joke, and Cyclops blasts him, too. In the kitchen, Phoenix comforts Quicksilver over the loss of his wife and sister until Psylocke enters and informs them Archangel is unwell. Elsewhere, Bastion arrives at a hidden mountain base where Operation: Zero Tolerance is studying the Sentinels that Onslaught used to occupy Manhattan. Bastion’s shapeshifting subordinate Harper confirms the Sentinels are quite primitive, and Bastion backhands Harper for mimicking his appearance. Back at the Institute, Xavier continues to blame himself for Onslaught. Wolverine tells Xavier to let the X-Men help and says Xavier is the reason he stayed with the team. Gambit joins the others at the boathouse for breakfast and learns Cannonball, Magneto, and Rogue will not be joining them. Wolverine soon arrives, says Xavier will not be coming either, and the group sits down to eat.
