Synopsis for "The Common Right of Toads and Men"
Two cyborg agents of Apocalypse—Deadeye and Mangle—try to prevent Weapon X from entering the X-Men’s former base on Wundagore Mountain, but he swiftly dismembers them and proceeds inside. While walking through the ruins and recalling his time with the X-Men, he is met by Human Defense League operative Carol Danvers. She is posted there to guard the mutant teleporter Gateway. In London, the Human High Council reviews video footage of a recent mass murder by Apocalypse’s Infinites and hopes Logan succeeds in his current mission. Given Brian Braddock’s agitated state, Bolivar and Moira Trask suggest he stay behind during the Council armada’s strike on New York, but he insists on going. Back at Wundagore, Weapon X and Carol find Gateway silently monitoring multiple media broadcasts, and he ignores them until Logan trashes his equipment. Gateway takes Logan’s hand, mystically reads his mind, and learns Logan is there to recruit him as lead pilot for the Council’s armada. Gateway refuses. Just then, Deadeye and Mangle attack, having grafted themselves together. Carol destroys them with a grenade, but they have already led Donald Pierce and his flying agent Vultura to Wundagore. Gateway teleports himself, Logan, and Carol aboard Pierce’s approaching plane. Logan eviscerates Vultura and throws her out. Then, Carol tackles Pierce out of the plane and sets off a grenade as they fall, seemingly killing them both. Gateway takes the pilot’s seat, Logan tells him to fly to the armada’s staging area in Paris, and Gateway agrees to talk with the High Council.
