Synopsis for "Prologue"

Tens of millions of years ago, two alien warships do battle in Earth orbit.  One ship belongs to the Batai; the other to the T’srri. The T’srri cripple the Batai ship so, in retaliation, the Batai commander Meld’on rams it into the T’srri ship. As a Batai fleet arrives, the two ships plummet to Earth, creating an impact crater 10 miles wide and a firestorm that sweeps across the globe.  In 1969, Apollo 11 lands on the Moon and detects strange energy readings.  In the present, Apollo 18 lands on the Moon under the command of Col. Tyson Stone.  He and two astronauts investigate the source of the readings, a derelict complex in Alghul Crater.  Inside, they find sophisticated alien technology and humanoid beings in cryogenic sleep. A massive, armored creature attacks and kills the two astronauts.  Stone flees, but an alien circuit fragment worms into his spacesuit and into his head.  He makes it back to the mission shuttle and escapes.  Left with amnesia of the entire experience, Stone returns to his home in New England. One night, he begins to transform and attacks his wife, Annalee.  She recognizes the alien technology possessing him as T’srri, exorcises it from his body, and destroys it with an energy blast.  She then dons her alien uniform and tells Stone they need to talk. Back in Alghul Crater, one of the T’srri awakens, vowing to conquer Earth.

Notes

• This story shows that, in the Top Cow Universe, the smashed together mass of the Batai and T'srri starships was the impactor that struck Earth roughly 66 million years ago and caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.
