Synopsis for "Thuvia"
John Carter and Tars Tarkas enter a magnificent castle guarded by several lions (Banths). As they fight off the animals, a greater foe awaits them beyond the dark corridors of peril -- Thuvia the Huntress. When she strikes John with her whip, he explains that he is not her enemy. Trusting him, she confesses her origin, stating that the Holy Therns (a vicious cult) captured her and her scouting party, and imprisoned them. The two join Tars Tarkas, who is still battling several lions in another room. Thuvia is able to use mind control on the beasts, and the fighting subsides. They then trod lightly through the various tunnels, freeing the other prisoners. When they emerge from the winding passageways, they come upon the city of Therns which is under siege by the black pirates. One of the pirates quickly grabs Thuvia and heads for his ship. John desperately fights his way towards the vessel. As it takes off, John leaps onto the ship, and the two duel with swords. With a quick lunge, the pirate falls. John believes it is finished, however Thuvia notices that Tars Tarkas is still fighting below. The aircraft swoops down and Tars Tarkas leaps aboard. As the "battle of Gods" continues below, the three head off towards Helium, towards John's true love -- Dejah Thoris.
Meanwhile, Princess Dejah Thoris and Sola land their damaged craft in the middle of an endless desert. They meet a citizen from a hidden city who leads them through a secret doorway to a lush valley (City of Sorkan). He bestows upon them a flying lion as a gift, to help them fly home to Helium.

Synopsis for "Jubal the Ugly One"
David Innes sails back to the land of Phutra and greets his friends, but several reptilian birds have followed him home, and they're hungry. When the Mahars (Pterodactyls) attack, David slaughters and skins them. He, and his party of friends, wear the skins as cloaks and come across several ape men. One of the apes notices a human foot where a claw should be, and springs for combat. In an instant, a struggle ensues, and David's men leap out of their costumes and fight off the apes. After their triumph, they scamper deeper into the forest. David confides to them that he has stolen the "forbidden book of the Mahars." The book contains secrets of how to destroy the reptilian birds, and David hopes to end their reign. The rest of the men hike out in search of a village, while David stays behind, continuing to fight off more ape men. Suddenly, his beastly foes are being chased, and killed off, by a giant cave bear. David hides himself away from the slaughter. He then hears a woman's scream and quickly shoots an arrow at an attacking reptile. Bullseye. He walks over to the unharmed woman and finds she is the Empress Dian, the woman he loves. A tribesman steps out of the bushes and claims that she belongs to him, not David.
