Synopsis for "By the Sword!"

In New York, Majestic battles a mob of mutated humans alone until Savant teleports Maul, Voodoo, and Warblade in to help him.  Aboard the Brotherhood ship, Raven spells out his plans of conquest and reveals to Zealot that, for millennia, it was the Brotherhood who prevented the Kheran leadership from contacting the Kherubim on Earth.  He threatens Nemesis, unzipping her tunic.  Inside, it is full of grenades genetically targeted to the Brotherhood which she then detonates.  Thousands of years ago on Khera, Majestros was walking through a slum when a pickpocket stole his dagger.  He chased her down but was immediately ambushed by Daemonites.  The girl, a young Charis, used the dagger to kill them, saving Majestros.  Now, Zealot inserts a disc into the Brotherhood ship’s computers enabling Savant to take control of them and teleports the millions of hostages to safety. Meanwhile, Grifter and Nemesis fight through Daemonites to rescue Kara.  On Khera millennia ago, Majestros rewarded Charis by arranging her admission to the Coda.  She went to the Tower of Red Lament where she was introduced to her mentor, a hostile and surly Zealot.  That night, she snuck into Majestros’s palace and lambasted him for her so-called reward. Nevertheless, she planned to stay with the Coda.  She then spent the night with Majestros, becoming his lover.  In the present, Savant is only able to teleport Grifter, Zealot, and Kara to safety.  Nemesis stays behind to face Raven on her own.
