Synopsis for "Rahne of Terra"

In the bunker beneath the ruins of Xavier’s School, the New Mutants wonder what to do with Rahne since she has gone insane. They have put her in a straitjacket as, for the past week, she has denied she is Wolfsbane and insisted she is the royal heir to the throne of Geshem. Cable tries to calm her and reason with her, but she remains distraught.

In a dark forest, a berserk Wolverine ambushes the Mage of Geshem and stabs him. In retaliation, the Mage has his techno-organic staff transform into a monster and attack, but Wolverine slashes it to pieces. Afterward, he rants to himself that he must kill the princess.

In Geshem’s royal castle, Princess Rain wakes up and takes a bath. Talking with her servant Tabby, she dismisses a long-standing prophecy that a beast will consume her on her upcoming birthday. Against the advice of Richard, one of her guards, Rain decides to go for a horse ride. Meanwhile, Wolverine ambushes another of her guards, Samuel, when he finds what is left of the Mage’s staff. Samuel fights Logan off with his gun Cannonball and flies away using his special boots. At the castle, the King and Rain interrupt her guards drinking and joking about her. After the King chastises Richard, Rain briefly sees her other guard Robert as Sunspot. Just then, Samuel enters and presents the remains of the Mage’s staff to the King. Once he describes his encounter with Wolverine, the King believes Logan to the prophesied beast and orders Samuel to kill him. Rain tries to reassure the King, but he collapses suddenly and dies.

Elsewhere, the sorcerer Magnus restrains Wolverine and boasts of how he brought Logan to Geshem to help him seize the power in the land under the castle. Magnus then uses a potion to restore his control of Wolverine’s mind.

At the castle, Tabby refuses to let Rain attend her father’s funeral for her safety. Meanwhile, the Mage crawls out of a river, wounded but alive. As the King’s funeral procession moves through the city, Rain knocks out Tabby and escapes into the street, bumping into a peasant boy named Doug. The procession reaches the King’s tomb, but Wolverine lurks nearby. In the castle, Samuel finds Tabby, she tells him Rain has fled, and he flies off to find her. With Magnus controlling him, Wolverine attacks Rain when she enters her father’s tomb. Having followed her, Doug distracts Logan until Richard, Robert, and Samuel arrive with knights to fight him. Doug and Rain flee as Wolverine savagely cuts through the guards and mauls Samuel. Despite Magnus’s control, Logan refuses to kill him and Richard so Magnus has him chase after Rain. He catches up to her and Doug in the forest, but Rain briefly shifts into a wolfen form and fights him off.

Doug takes her back to the castle, but Wolverine follows, slaying more guards along the way. Using her powers has restored the princess’s memory, reminding her she is really Wolfsbane. When Wolverine arrives to kill her, she fights him and tries to talk him down. Tabby sets him on fire, and he flees, driving Magnus to intervene directly. He appears before Wolfsbane and realizes she is from the same parallel Earth as Wolverine, brought to Geshem by the Mage. The Mage enters and tries to kill Magnus, but he fails. In the city outside, Logan douses himself in a well and, at last free of Magnus’s influence, remembers who he is. Tapping into the power beneath the castle, Magnus grows to gargantuan portions, destroying the castle and towering over the city. While the people flee in terror, Wolverine climbs into Magnus’s ear. About to kill Wolfsbane and the Mage, Magnus screams and bleeds from his nose. Wolverine tumbles from Magnus’s ear and, caught by Samuel, explains that he “picked” Magnus’s brain. Magnus collapses then rapidly shrinks to nothingness.

Amidst the ruins of the castle, the Mage explains to Wolfsbane that he made her and the real Princess Rain swap places to protect Rain. He then used a spell to convince Wolfsbane she was Rain. As Rahne berates him for kidnapping her, he sends her back to Earth and brings Rain back. Thinking she just had a terrible dream, Rain realizes her father is dead. She then notices Doug, and he introduces himself. At Xavier’s School, the New Mutants enter as Wolfsbane claws out of the straitjacket. Briefly mistaking Cable for the Mage, she slaps him then hugs him. Later, Rahne insists her experience in Geshem was not a dream as she and the team walk in the woods. Smoking a cigar, Logan announces himself, tosses Rain’s wolf pendant to Wolfsbane, tells her he is glad she made it back okay, and walks away.
