Synopsis for Zatara: "Magic in Reverse"

Zatara puts on an educational presentation at a public school, where he meets dyslexic student Jimmy Gale, who spells words from right to left, and has difficulty in judging distances. By imitating Zatara's tone of voice and inadvertently gesturing (because of an injured arm) Jimmy accidentally causes the school building to fly. Then he falls out a window, and Zatara rescues him, then prevents a mail airplane from crashing into the school, then calms an internal tornado, then causes the school to reassemble itself, all while reacting to magical events caused by Jimmy. Then Zatara figures out what's going on and solves the problem by teaching Jimmy a simple technique, that of writing his words first backward then forward.

  • This story is from 1950 and the word "dyslexia" never appears in it, but it's pretty clear that's what Jimmy's problem is.
