Synopsis for "Mahapralaya!"

Havok thinks Haven is controlling Wolfsbane’s mind, but Rahne insists her mind is her own. Determined to convert X-Factor to her cause, Haven shows them and Random her operations center. Havok refuses to believe her and fights with Monsoon until Haven breaks them up. Contending the sacrifice of billions of lives is worth the golden age she believes will follow, she reveals she has put a satellite in orbit that will electromagnetically stimulate a series of earthquakes to destroy California. Havok orders Haven’s arrest, but one of Multiple Man’s duplicates embraces her cause. X-Factor moves to attack, but Haven declares they must undergo their own Pralayas and makes them vanish. Having sent them to a distorted plane of reality, Haven analyzes their fears and flaws: Havok and Polaris’s codependence, Strong Guy’s constant pain, Random’s loneliness, and Multiple Man’s fractured identity. X-Factor awakens in a cell with Random reduced to a pile of mush. As he reassumes human form, Polaris offers help, but he rejects it. Havok tries to blast out of the cell, but a defense system rechannels it back at him. Monsoon enters with Val, and she reveals they have been working undercover against Haven. They free the team, but Madrox’s rogue duplicate intercepts them with a force of Haven’s troops. In the ensuing battle, Multiple Man tries to create more duplicates, but they are faceless and helpless. Realizing he is dying of the Legacy Virus, he leaves to find Haven. Meanwhile, Haven monitors the fight with Wolfsbane and hears Monsoon explain he turned against her out of a refusal to abet mass murder. Haven is heartbroken but undeterred. X-Factor, Monsoon, and Random defeat Haven’s troops, and Val leads them to the compound’s roof. Inside, Madrox collapses at Haven’s feet. Val has Polaris use her powers to stop the satellite as it passes overhead, and Havok destroys it with a plasma blast. With her immediate plans averted, Haven appears carrying Madrox and orders her troops to stand down. She offers to save Madrox’s life, and Polaris confirms he was infected with the Legacy Virus during X-Factor’s mission to Genosha. After disowning Monsoon, Haven makes Havok choose whether or not to save Multiple Man. Havok tells her to do it, and she makes Madrox disappear, but when he reappears, he drops dead. Convinced Haven killed him, Havok lashes out at her, but she claims the virus is mutantkind’s Mahapralaya and teleports away. As X-Factor mourns their teammate, Haven stands on a mountaintop miles away, and a voice within her says she knew there would be sacrifices.
