Synopsis for "Extreme Measures"

In Phoenix, Arizona, mutant Michelle Balters a.k.a. Neurotap is on the run from her boyfriend Adam X a.k.a. X-Treme. He has been sent to retrieve her by their boss, Martin Henry Strong. Just as X-Treme corners her in an alley, X-Force arrives, and Cable shoots him in the back. Merely stunned, X-Treme dodges the team’s attacks, cuts them with blades he carries, and stuns them by using his power to ignite the electrolytes in their blood. Then, he warns Neurotap he will be back for her and escapes. As X-Force stagger to their feet, she explains X-Treme’s powers. They take off in the team’s jet and, aware X-Treme is following them in his own craft, land at the Grand Canyon. In Denver, Cannonball and Siryn are undercover as interns at Strong’s research facility and find a secret vault. That night, they sneak inside and discover mutants held in stasis. Feral is also there, having let herself be captured as part of the infiltration. At the Grand Canyon, Rictor, Shatterstar, and Warpath ambush X-Treme, and he and Shatterstar fight until Rictor separates them. X-Treme reveals he is an amnesiac and that Strong promised to uncover his past in exchange for capturing mutants for the facility. Nearby, Neurotap tells the rest of X-Force how she ran away from home after her powers manifested, went to work for Strong in Denver, and became X-Treme’s lover. She then divulges that Strong, a mutant himself, is trying to eliminate the genes that cause mutant powers. The next day in Denver, Strong realizes who Cannonball and Siryn really are and subdues them with his superhuman strength. He shackles them next to Feral and threatens to torture them. Sensing he has two heartbeats, Feral attacks him, but he easily fends her off. That night, X-Treme arrives at the facility with Boomer and Rictor as his seeming captives. Once he brings them before Strong, the two attack, and Cable teleports in with Neurotap and the rest of X-Force. In the ensuing battle, Strong withstands the team’s assaults, and Neurotap knocks them out with her powers. Strong knew someone was investigating him, had her run away, and had X-Treme chase her to draw out and reveal X-Force as his pursuers. X-Treme knocks out Neurotap and, after Cable stabs Strong in the chest, ignites Strong’s blood. Strong’s body explodes, exposing his smaller true form within. Born with a superhuman intellect but fins instead of hands and feet, he had created his outer form as a synthetic, super-strong body. Cannonball, Feral, and Siryn are freed, and Sam and Cable debate whether to destroy the facility given that disfigured mutants like Strong may legitimately want a cure. After learning Neurotap accidentally put her parents in a coma with her powers and that Strong pays for their care, X-Force teleports outside with X-Treme. Cable invites him to join, but he declines, saying he must learn his true identity first.
