Synopsis for "The Open Hand, the Closed Fist"

At Xavier’s School, Lila Cheney walks in on Boomer trying on a new costume, makes it clear her relationship with Cannonball is long over, and tells Boomer to pursue him if she wants. Out by the estate’s boathouse, Sunspot confides in Stevie Hunter about his self-doubt and uncertain sense of identity. Inside, Beast watches Feral, Rictor, and Shatterstar train in the Danger Room and notes their combat skills, but he worries about their ethics. Warpath and a reluctant Siryn copy data from the School’s computers, unaware Xavier telepathically senses them doing it. Cannonball wants to know when X-Force will be free to go, leading to an argument about the team’s methods. In Massachusetts, Vanessa is staying with her friend Tina and has locked herself in her room for weeks. Aboard the SHIELD helicarrier, Henry Gyrich and Gen. Clarke censure G.W. Bridge over Weapon: PRIME’s failure to capture Cable. Furious, Bridge quits SHIELD. Back at the School, Boomer uses a Shi’ar device to design new costumes for X-Force. Cannonball declares his willingness to fight for the team’s freedom, and Warpath says they will stand by him. Outside, Siryn tells Xavier her reasons for joining X-Force and expresses optimism about their future. Later, Sam tells Xavier that X-Force is leaving, reigniting their debate. Sam argues that X-Force’s militant methods can be used to protect just as Xavier’s less aggressive methods can be used to hurt. With words of warning about moral compromise, Xavier lets the team go, and Lila teleports them away.
