Synopsis for "The Phalanx Covenant - Life Signs part 2: The Faith Dancers"
Douglock brings Cannonball, Forge, and Wolfsbane to a small town in the Italian Alps. Suspicious, Cannonball angrily voices his mistrust until Wolfsbane interjects, and they discuss their feelings about Douglock’s resemblance to their late teammate Cypher. Using an image inducer to disguise themselves, the group walks into the town. Everything seems normal, but Douglock warns Forge he can sense the Phalanx all around them. At Mont St. Francis, Moira MacTaggert uses equipment left over by the Acolytes to scan Rictor and Shadowcat for remnants of the Transmode Virus hoping they can use its signature to locate the Phalanx. In an upstairs room, Nightcrawler and Strong Guy guard Professor X while he telepathically contacts Forge. Tapping into Forge’s mutant power of mechanical super-intuition, Xavier is amazed by how advanced the Phalanx are. At Wolfsbane’s suggestion, Douglock joins their link, and they debate the rights of the Phalanx as sentient beings. In a nearby valley, Douglock’s group finds the Nursery Conduit, a vast structure of gestation pods containing infant Phalanx. Back at Mont St. Francis, Moira identifies the Transmode signature, and Rictor and Warpath use it to pinpoint the Phalanx’s location. Shatterstar wants to deploy immediately, but the others insist on waiting for Xavier. In Italy, Forge approaches a gestation pod, and the newborn Phalanx within emerges and attacks him. Still linked with Xavier, he learns the Phalanx seek to assimilate all life in the universe. Forge is captivated, but Xavier severs the link, warns Excalibur, X-Factor, and X-Force of the true scope of the Phalanx threat, and declares they must act immediately. Siryn, Havok, and Nightcrawler divide the assembled teams into two groups: one to go confront the Phalanx in the Alps and the other to remain on guard at Mont St. Francis. To avoid using equipment the Phalanx can co-opt, Siryn and Polaris combine their powers to transport the attack group. Back in Italy, Cannonball frees Forge but grows suspicious when he argues the Phalanx are not evil. To disguise Cannonball, Forge, and Wolfsbane, Douglock covers them in techno-organic mesh. Then, he leads them to a clifftop structure called the Babel Spire. Unbeknownst to the group, they are spotted by the wolf-headed Phalanx called Shinar. Suddenly, the Spire rises to a towering height, and Douglock reveals the Phalanx will use it to invite the ancestral alien Phalanx to come assimilate Earth.

Trivia
- Rictor and Shadowcat were friends with Warlock, the alien whose remains were used to create the Phalanx on Earth, and they were exposed to the techno-organic Transmode Virus he carried. Warlock is a member of the Technarchy, a techno-organic species distinct from the Phalanx. The relationship between the Technarchy and the Phalanx is explained in the Warlock series.
- The Acolytes used Mont St. Francis as a base in Uncanny X-Men #300.
