Synopsis for "Point Blank"
In Berlin, covert operative Adrian Eiskalt recounts to his therapist battling Magneto with the East German army at Wundagore Mountain years ago. Magneto decimated his unit, and he fled with his brother Ute into some woods, stumbling onto the grave of Magneto’s wife. He claims Magneto then killed Ute in cold blood. Adrian’s therapist encourages him to move on, but his hatred for Magneto is what keeps him going. At Empire State University in New York, Gabrielle Haller gives a presentation on the life of Magneto. Claiming he was born Erik Magnus Lehnsherr, she narrates his survival of Auschwitz, the loss of his wife and daughter, and meeting him through his work helping other Holocaust survivors like her. Haller dismisses his reputation as a tyrant and defends him as a crusader for mutant equality. Aboard an airline flight, Adrian nearly kills another passenger after mistaking him for Magneto. Two days later in Manhattan, he watches a TV debate between anti-mutant activist Graydon Creed and pro-mutant author Jonathan Chambers. The next day, he meets Haller for lunch to recruit her for an international initiative to defeat Magneto. She detects his desire for revenge but agrees to help on the condition Magneto be captured alive and given a fair trial. On a boat off Key West, Magneto’s emissary Exodus meets with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and invites member Phantazia to Magneto’s space station Avalon. The other members are enraged at being excluded, and Phantazia declines. Later, Toad meets with Adrian and recalls the intimidation and abuse he experienced as Magneto’s lackey. In Israel, Haller contacts Moira MacTaggert and convinces her to share her data on Magneto’s powers and physiology. Weeks later, Genetech’s Walter Rosen shows Adrian and Haller the Fugue armor, a bodysuit developed using Moira’s data specifically to be invisible to Magneto’s powers. Over the next two weeks, Adrian tests the suit, and Genetech builds him a plastic taser to subdue Magneto for capture. Following Magneto’s assault on Xavier’s School, Adrian and Haller attend a meeting of the U.S. Commission on Superhuman Affairs. As its members debate what to do, Adrian deduces Magneto will once again visit Wundagore Mountain and plans to kill him. Wearing the Fugue armor, Adrian lies in wait in the forest near the grave of Magneto’s wife. When Magneto arrives, Adrian remembers how his brother Ute really died. Magneto had told them to leave, but Ute pulled his gun and opened fire so Magneto killed him. Adrian cannot bring himself to use the taser and drops it. Magneto spots him and flies away. Consumed with grief and shame, Adrian breaks down crying.
