Synopsis for "Smoke and Mirrors"

Cyclops, Phoenix, and Professor X admire the Xavier Institute’s new sign and discuss their optimism about the future. In the lab, Beast discovers the Legacy Virus has evolved into three different strains. Iceman invites him to the swimming pool, but he declines. Later, Iceman freezes the pool just as Rogue dives into it, and they argue about his distress over his recent possession by the White Queen. In the Danger Room, Phoenix and Psylocke telepathically spar, joke about Betsy’s past flirtation with Cyclops, and her life without Revanche. Afterward, Cyclops monitors Sabretooth’s use of the room for exercise until Gambit takes over and sharply increases the difficulty level of the exercise program. In New Mexico, X-Treme visits Hazard in prison to ask about a man named Milbury. Hazard tells him to contact Professor X. Back at the Institute, Xavier and Bishop survey the wreckage of Xavier’s ready room. For the sake of secrecy, he never backed up the data stored there, but he worries the mutant Commcast may have a copy. In a Tel Aviv hospital, Xavier’s son Legion dreams of the late Destiny encouraging him to aid his father’s goals. In the Danger Room, Sabretooth’s exercise program ends, and Gambit admits he altered it. Gambit attacks Sabretooth, but stops short of killing him and declares he is becoming a better man for Rogue. Rogue walks in and says she and Gambit must both accept their checkered pasts. Iceman returns to the lab, and Beast explains his discovery with the Legacy Virus. When Iceman asks if he is a loser, Beast assures him he is not and suggests they go out for dinner and talk. Cyclops and Phoenix find Xavier back at the sign, and they wonder what they will do if his dream of harmony between humans and mutants is fulfilled.
